Supercar track training day – July 2019
Photos of the Ariel Atom 300 & photos & on board video from our attempts to drive a McLaren MP4-12C GT3. For those who want the tech stuff: it’s a 3.8 litre twin turbo V8 with 592 BHP at 7500 revs; 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and 0-100 mph in 6 seconds; and has been clocked in excess of its published top speed of around 207 mph. Not as easy to drive as you might think – the first driver who stalled it twice and stays in second gear whilst he warms up the tyres is the instructor! And then when the guest takes over it gets driven like a shopping trolley, but eventually gains confidence and gets into 3rd gear. It seems it is a good idea to have a short, twisting track so that you don’t get too carried away.
